Regain Your Confidence & Comfort

Missing teeth can make it difficult to enjoy your favourite foods, speak clearly, and smile with confidence. Over time, gaps can also cause facial muscles to sag, making you look older. Dental dentures are a time-tested, removable solution designed to replace missing teeth and support surrounding tissues.

At Kingshurst Dental Surgery in Birmingham, we combine digital scanning with advanced lab dental technology to ensure a precise, comfortable fit that blends seamlessly with your face.

Flexible Finance Options

To help make treatment accessible, we offer 0% finance payment plans on our premium denture treatments (subject to credit score, administration fee applies). Spread your payments easily.

The Journey

The Treatment Process

Crafting your custom dentures requires precision and is completed over three main steps.

1

1. Consultation & Scan

We assess your oral health. We then take precise, comfortable 3D digital scans or moulds of your arches to design a highly accurate model of your gums.

2

2. Try-In & Adjust

The lab prepares a wax model with teeth. We place this in your mouth to check your bite, speech, and tooth appearance, making fine tweaks before final fabrication.

3

3. Final Delivery

The lab constructs your final denture. We check the fit, explain how to insert and remove it, and guide you on cleaning and aftercare.

Post-Treatment Advice

Denture Aftercare & Care Guides

Acrylic Denture Care Guide

  • Getting Used to It: It may take a few weeks to adapt to your new acrylic denture. Start by wearing it for short periods and gradually increase the duration.
  • Denture Adhesive: We recommend using a denture adhesive. It creates a cushioning effect between the gums and acrylic, improving comfort and stability. Remove any residue from gums and denture before reapplying.
  • Daily Brushing: Rinse after meals. Brush daily with a soft toothbrush and mild denture cleaner. Avoid regular toothpaste (it contains abrasives that scratch acrylic).
  • Overnight rest: Remove your denture at night to allow your gums to rest. Soak it in a denture cleaner or plain water to prevent drying out and warping. Never use hot water, as it causes warping.
  • Fragile Handling: Acrylic dentures can be fragile — handle them carefully over a basin of water or towel to avoid dropping and breaking them.

Flexible Denture Care Guide

  • Adaptation Period: It may take a few weeks to get used to the flexible feel. Start slowly, wearing it for short periods and building up.
  • Clean Safely: Clean after meals. Brush daily with a soft brush and non-abrasive denture cleaner. Soak overnight in plain water or a compatible non-abrasive cleaner (Val-Clean, FDC, TCS).
  • Avoid Hot Water: Do not use hot water to clean or soak, as excessive heat can permanently distort its custom shape and flexibility.
  • Fit & Checks: Flexible dentures are more durable but still require careful handling. If the denture becomes loose, uncomfortable, or causes gum irritation, contact us for an adjustment.
Recommended Cleaning Product: We highly recommend cleaning your flexible denture with TCS Concentrated Cleaner. You can purchase a 6-month supply on Amazon here: TCS Concentrated Cleaner on Amazon.
Common Questions

Dentures FAQs

How long does it take to get used to new dentures?
It typically takes between 2 to 4 weeks to fully adapt to a new denture. Eating and speaking may feel slightly strange initially. We recommend starting with softer foods cut into small pieces, chewing slowly on both sides, and practicing reading aloud to adapt your speech.
Why must I remove my dentures at night?
Removing your dentures at night is essential for your oral health. It allows your gums and bone to rest, preventing constant pressure that can lead to tissue inflammation and bone resorption. Leaving dentures in 24/7 also increases the risk of developing oral thrush (fungal infections).
Why is regular toothpaste bad for cleaning dentures?
Regular toothpaste contains microscopic abrasive particles designed to scrub natural enamel. Acrylic and flexible denture resins are much softer than enamel, so toothpaste will scratch them. These tiny scratches become breeding grounds for plaque, stains, and bacteria, leading to odours and discolouration. Use a soft brush and mild soap or denture-specific cleaners instead.
What makes Valplast flexible dentures better?
Valplast dentures are made of a flexible, tissue-friendly nylon resin. They are virtually unbreakable, much thinner than acrylic dentures, and adapt dynamically to your mouth temperature. Instead of metal clasps, they use flexible, pink clasps that blend invisibly with your natural gums for outstanding aesthetics.
Do you offer finance options for dentures?
Yes. At Kingshurst Dental Surgery, we offer 0% finance options on our premium denture treatments, allowing you to spread the cost of Gold or Diamond dentures comfortably. An administration fee applies, and financing is subject to credit check.
What should I do if my denture becomes loose or breaks?
If your denture breaks, cracks, or feels loose, contact us immediately. Do not attempt to repair it yourself using superglue, as this is toxic, can ruin the denture material, and makes it impossible for our lab to repair it correctly. We can often arrange quick denture repairs through our partnered lab.
